Run Dartmoor: July 2009

Welcome

This is a website for people who love running over Dartmoor and it will hopefully inspire people to get out and explore the moors by completing our challenge of the month as well some more established challenges such as the Nigel Jenkins Round. Please be aware that some of the challenges listed on this site could venture onto inner reaches of the moor and should only be tackled by those with suitable experienced. Running solo is one of the great pleasures of moorland running, if you are planning to run solo please remember to inform someone of your intentions and time of return. Also agree what action they should take if you are over due. Please go appropiately equiped for the time of year and conditions.

THE "NIGEL JENKINS ROUND"

On New Years Eve 1999 Nigel Jennkins a local fell runner started out on his round of Dartmoor. His plan was to get back to the Royal Oak in Meavy to enjoy the New Year Celebrations. His round started and ended at the top of Sheepstor and circled Dartmoor via the following tops:- Sheepstor, Sharpitor, Ingra Tor, Pew Tor, Cox Tor, Standon Hill, Ger Tor, Brat Tor, Branscombe's Loaf, High Willhays, Oke Tor, Cosdon Beacon, Rippator, Thornworthy Tor, Hameldown Tor, Hameldown Beacon, Wind Tor, Rowden Ball, Sharp Tor, Pupers Hill, Corringdon Ball, Butterdown Hill, Western Beacon, Hillson's House, Penn Beacon, Trowlesworthy Tor, Gutter Tor and Sheepstor.

His time for the run was 18 hours and 3 minutes.

Currently as far as I know the Round has been completed just twice since by two members of Drake Hash House Harriers.
